Trump Team Pushes For Prosecution Of Letitia James Over Mortgage Fraud Allegations

In a startling turn of events that has reverberated throughout New York’s political arena, Attorney General Letitia James—previously celebrated by the left as a staunch advocate for justice due to her unwavering pursuit of President Donald Trump—now finds herself implicated in a federal criminal referral concerning alleged mortgage fraud. The allegations, outlined in a critical letter acquired by The Post, suggest a narrative of hypocrisy and deception that threatens to dismantle the career of a woman who has consistently asserted, “No one is above the law.” For conservatives, this situation represents a fitting reversal: the pursuer has become the pursued.

The referral, authored by Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director William Pulte and directed to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy AG Todd Blanche, accuses James of falsifying documents to obtain favorable home loans for a property in Norfolk, Virginia, in 2023. The timing of these claims is particularly damaging—James purportedly designated the Virginia property as her “principal residence” mere weeks before initiating her prominent civil fraud case against the Trump Organization, which resulted in a $454 million judgment. As the leading prosecutor in New York, James is legally obligated to maintain her primary residence within the state. However, according to Pulte’s correspondence, she allegedly misrepresented her residency to secure a lower interest rate and more advantageous loan conditions.

“It appears Ms. James’ property and mortgage-related misrepresentations may have extended to her recent 2023 Norfolk, VA property purchase in order to secure a lower interest rate and more favorable loan terms,” Pulte stated. The boldness of the alleged scheme is astonishing, particularly in light of James’ self-righteous rhetoric during her campaign against Trump for purportedly inflating property values. Should these allegations be substantiated, James could face severe legal repercussions, including charges of wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud, and providing false statements to a financial institution. The Virginia property represents merely a fraction of the broader issue. Pulte’s correspondence reveals a longstanding pattern of alleged dishonesty. In 2001, James acquired a five-family residence in Brooklyn but is said to have misrepresented it as a four-unit property in various building permit applications and mortgage documents. This manipulation could have potentially lowered her mortgage interest rate by up to 1% and reduced her monthly payments under the federal Home Affordable Modification Program. Even more perplexing, records indicate that James listed her father as a co-signer on property purchases in 1983 and 2000, falsely asserting that they were “husband and wife.” As Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, remarked to Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, “It’s either your primary residence or it isn’t. You’re either married to your father or he is simply your father.”

Turley, a well-respected legal expert, characterized the evidence as “quite damning” and described the situation as “perfectly crushing” for James, who has pursued Trump for similar accusations of deceiving financial institutions. “This is someone who has prosecuted Trump for everything short of removing a label from a mattress,” Turley humorously noted on “The Ingraham Angle.” “If we apply the standard that Letitia James has established, there would be little doubt here. This appears to be quite clear-cut.”

The irony is undeniable. James gained notoriety by using her position against Trump, consistently asserting that “no one is above the law” while initiating investigations and lawsuits against him. Her statements served as a rallying point for progressives eager to see the former president held accountable. However, as these allegations emerge, James’ own declarations may return to haunt her. If substantiated, her actions would not only damage her credibility but also highlight the double standards that conservatives have long criticized in institutions led by liberals.

As expected, James’ office has dismissed the referral as a politically motivated assault. “Attorney General JamThe timing of the referral introduces an additional element of intrigue. It coincided with the day when James’ office announced it was “preliminarily scrutinizing” the possibility of insider trading in light of President Trump’s 90-day suspension of “reciprocal” tariffs. Trump, known for his directness, has already capitalized on the controversy, criticizing James on Truth Social as a “totally corrupt politician” who should “immediately resign from her role as New York State Attorney General.” He further stated, “Everyone is trying to MAKE NEW YORK GREAT AGAIN, and it can never be accomplished with this wacky crook in office.”

For conservatives, this scandal represents more than just a moment of triumph; it serves as a validation of their long-standing belief that liberal elites frequently act without consequences while demanding accountability from others. If James’ alleged misconduct is proven, it would reinforce the argument made by many on the right: that the left’s moral posturing is merely a façade, and their campaigns against figures like Trump are motivated by political interests rather than genuine principles. As this narrative develops, a critical question arises: will Letitia James endure the same intense scrutiny she has so readily applied to others? Or will she, like numerous progressive figures before her, escape accountability? One thing is clear—her assertion that “No one is above the law” has never seemed more ironic. For the time being, conservatives are observing closely, eager to see if justice will finally prevail against New York’s self-proclaimed protector of the law.
