For the fifth time, Trump will not attend the dinner for White House correspondents.

President Donald Trump has announced that he will not participate in the upcoming White House Correspondents’ Dinner scheduled for April 26. Throughout his first term, Trump consistently opted out of this event, yet the White House Press Association continued to engage anti-Trump individuals to provide politically charged commentary. In response, Trump organized an alternative event known as the “fake news awards,” which highlighted significant hoaxes and misleading news stories related to the government.

This decision to skip the luncheon emphasizes the persistent tension between the Trump administration and the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA).

In February, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt indicated that the White House would assume control over the pool reporter rotation, allowing the administration to select which journalists would have access to Trump’s travels and cover events designated for pooled reporting only. Additionally, the White House has restricted the Associated Press from participating in the pool after the organization declined to endorse Trump’s initiative to rename the Gulf of America.

In recent years, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has been perceived as a platform for left-leaning activism disguised as humor.

Many view this event as a pivotal moment in Trump’s political journey, particularly recalling the 2011 dinner when then-President Barack Obama delivered a lengthy monologue that ridiculed Trump, who was present in the audience, concluding with a warning that he would never attain the presidency.

Trump’s choice to boycott this year’s event follows the WHCA’s decision to replace another anti-Trump comedian, Amber Ruffin, from the headlining position after she expressed intentions to replicate the performance of Michelle Wolf. Ruffin has a track record of transitioning from comedy to far-left activism, notably criticizing the jury and the “racist” judge overseeing the Kyle Rittenhouse case in a monologue following Rittenhouse’s acquittal during the 2020 Jacob Blake riots.
She articulated her obligation to communicate essential truths that are often overlooked.

A recent report from the Daily Beast indicates that Ruffin intended to label the government as a “bunch of murderers.”
“This year’s @whca dinner will feature a second-rate comedian who is previewing the event by branding this administration as ‘murderers’ who desire to ‘feel like human beings,’ yet they should not be allowed that privilege because they are not,” stated a Trump Administration official in a social media post earlier this year. “What kind of responsible and sensible journalist would choose to attend such an event? More importantly, what kind of organization would support an event filled with hate and inciting violence?”

Several prominent members of Trump’s cabinet, including White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, have opted not to participate in the annual gathering.
“This is a group of journalists who have been reporting on the White House for decades,” Leavitt remarked to former White House press secretary Sean Spicer on his podcast last month. “They established this organization because previous presidents were not holding enough press conferences. I don’t believe that is an issue we face anymore with this president.”

This development coincides with a striking new analysis from CNN’s data expert Harry Enten, which highlights a significant transformation in American politics during President Trump’s tenure.

During a segment on Friday with host Kate Bolduan, Enten disclosed that recent data indicates Republicans have supplanted Democrats as the “party of the people,” while the Democratic Party now primarily represents individuals with college degrees.
Amidst the ongoing trade war, a significant question persists: how much suffering will Americans have to endure, and what level of hardship are they willing to accept? A recent poll provides some insight into public sentiment, revealing a division among Americans regarding which political party is more attuned to their needs, Bolduan stated as she introduced Enten.

Enten responded, expressing his astonishment at the poll results, stating, “This is one of the most surprising pieces of polling data I have encountered this year, or perhaps in any previous year.”

He elaborated, “When asked which party is more concerned about the needs of individuals like you, the results show a tie, even after the onset of the tariff conflict. This division between Democrats and Republicans regarding perceptions of which party is more responsive to people’s needs is unexpected. To understand why this is so surprising, consider the trends from previous years.”

Enten pointed out that Democrats have historically led in this area. “In 2017, prior to the 2018 midterm elections, they held a 13-point advantage. In 2005, the lead was 23 points for Democrats. Even in 1994, a year favorable to Republicans, Democrats maintained a 19-point lead,” he noted.

“Now, we find ourselves in a situation where there is a tie. The Democrats, once regarded as the party representing the people’s interests, no longer hold that distinction. This shift in perception on a question that has traditionally favored Democrats is truly unexpected, particularly in light of the ongoing trade war,” he concluded.
