The Trump administration has formally launched its long-anticipated Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias, an aggressive government-wide initiative designed to root out a pattern of discrimination and hostility against Christians in recent years.

Attorney General Pam Bondi led the task force’s first official meeting Tuesday, hailing it as a turning point in restoring constitutional protections for religious Americans. “Thank you all for joining us today,” Bondi began. “We’re excited to be here for the launch of the task force to eradicate anti-Christian bias as outlined in the president’s executive order.”

“Together this task force will identify any unlawful anti-Christian policies, practices or conduct across the government, seek input from the faith-based organizations and state governments to end anti-Christian bias,” Bondi said.

“Biden’s Department of Justice abused and targeted Christians. Pro-life Christians were arrested and imprisoned for peacefully praying outside abortion clinics,” she continued. “The FBI spied on traditional Catholics in their parishes.”

She also referenced former President Joe Biden’s controversial move to designate Easter Sunday as “Transgender Day of Visibility,” a decision that sparked backlash among faith leaders and conservative groups. “Vandalism against churches was eight times higher in 2023 than it was in 2018,” Bondi said, citing an alarming trend that Trump officials attribute to inaction under the previous administration.

President Trump, in a February press release accompanying the executive order, wrote that his administration “will not tolerate anti-Christian weaponization of government or unlawful conduct targeting Christians.” He accused the Biden administration of “an egregious pattern of targeting peaceful Christians, while ignoring violent, anti-Christian offenses.”

Among those prosecuted under Biden’s DOJ were an 87-year-old woman and a Catholic priest who had been arrested for praying outside abortion clinics. Trump granted pardons in these cases on January 23, describing them as victims of “a politically motivated prosecution campaign.”

The task force, which Bondi chairs, includes the Secretaries of State, Defense, Health and Human Services, Education, and others. The Department of Justice will serve as the central administrative hub for the task force’s operations.

Its mandate includes reviewing agency conduct, recommending revocations of harmful policies, and proposing legislative or executive action to protect Christians from discrimination.

“Just a few weeks ago, we convicted a man in Arizona for a plot to bomb Christian churches,” Bondi noted. “The Department of Justice will protect religious liberty for Christians and for all Americans.”

“The First Amendment isn’t just a line in the Constitution. It’s the cornerstone of our American liberty,” she said. “Protecting Christians from bias is not favoritism. It’s upholding the rule of law and fulfilling the constitutional promise.”

The task force will deliver its initial report within 120 days, followed by an annual update and a final report upon its dissolution, which is scheduled for two years from the date of the executive order’s signing, unless extended.

Bondi concluded, “We have an incredible opportunity, all of us around this table, to protect the rights of all citizens from discrimination based on their religious beliefs.”
